Meet Sethina Watson. Sethina works in ST7 anaesthetics at North Bristol NHS Trust. She is an elected member of Trainee Committee. Sethina’s clinical interests are obstetrics, regional and transfer medicine.
What does the Association Trainee Committee mean to you?
A chance to represent needs of trainees and other members of the workforce at a national level. Hope to improve the experience of training in the specialty and improving perioperative care for our patients.
What has most surprised you since joining the trainee committee?
The family feel of the committee - so friendly.
What would you like to achieve in your time on the trainee committee?
Improved awareness of current issues affecting trainees and actions to make things better in a rapidly changing anaesthetic workforce.
Why did you decide to become an anaesthetist/doctor?
I was thinking of becoming a doctor when I was pregnant! Had an epidural where I went from the worst pain in my life to no pain. Decided there and then that this was the job I wanted to do despite no science background!
What do you like most about your job?
The patients. Getting to help people at key points in their lives, whether it’s having a baby or an operation or in resus.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Family time with my children, gardening and cooking.
