Wylie Essay Prize: 'Environmental sustainability: opportunity or cost for anaesthesia?'
Congratulations to Mr Oliver Wright, a third-year medical student at the University of Manchester and the Wylie Essay Prize winner 2019. The annual prize is given to medical students on a contemporary topic chosen by the Research and Grants Committee. Oliver received his award and medal at the June Association Council meeting.
Oliver won the prize for his essay 'Environmental Sustainability: Opportunity or Cost for Anaesthesia?' The Wylie Medal is named in memory of the late Dr W Derek Wylie, President of the Association 1980 – 82.
Dr Kathleen Ferguson, current President of the Association, noted that Oliver’s essay had helped Board members reflect on the environmental impact of their practice, which is a great achievement at his stage of training.
