**UPDATED STATEMENT**

Annual Congress 2021 – decision to move to a fully virtual conference

It is with regret that the Association of Anaesthetists has decided to change Annual Congress 2021 from a hybrid to a fully virtual conference.

Whilst the UK government has ended all legal restrictions in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, as a profession we recognise the need to remain vigilant. Although there have been more positive reports recently, we are still unclear what the impact of the pandemic will be in late September. We recognise that many members are still unsure about travel, meeting in large groups, and being away from home.

The Board have, therefore, taken this difficult decision to reduce the risk of needing to pivot to a fully virtual event at the last minute. We feel it is better to provide certainty to all those involved by providing a conference format that we are able to guarantee we can deliver. We know this will be disappointing to those who wish to travel to Liverpool for Annual Congress 2021. All delegates who have booked to attend in person will be changed automatically to a fully virtual ticket and the difference in cost will be refunded to them; however, if you would prefer a full refund please let us know via email: [email protected]

We want to ensure we offer delegates the best possible conference experience, and because of the current uncertainty we feel that this is more achievable in a fully virtual format. We are certain that all attendees will enjoy top-quality CPD and education from the Association. The virtual conference platform will give you the freedom and flexibility to watch sessions at your own convenience, either live or on demand for three months after the conference. We will strive to create the same networking ‘buzz’ you would have experienced if you had attended in person.

Finally, we have extended the early booking date to Thursday 26 August to allow more members to take advantage of the discounted rates. We hope that you will join us online next month for a dynamic and innovative Annual Congress, 23-24 September 2021.
